Volume 2 Issue 44 Autumn 2006

Dear Felix Schwarz:

Late at night on Friday, Sept 22, Governor Schwarzenegger denied Californians their right to quality, affordable health  care by vetoing Senator Kuehl's Universal Health Care legislation (Senate Bill 840). This is understandable since Schwarzenegger accepted about $4.4 million from the private insurance industry for his election campaigns (9/24 LA Times). That was an unwise decision by the Governor.

The California legislature affirmed our right to quality, affordable health care by passing Senate Bill 840 and now we must fight to bring it back in the coming year.

Please write a letter to your local newspaper editor expressing your outrage that sell-out Schwarzenegger is denying us our right to quality, affordable healthcare by vetoing SB 840.

Governor Schwarzenegger’s veto asserted the right of health insurance profits over our right to quality, affordable health care. Remember, racists denied black people the right to vote. Yet, the people organized and prevailed. Sexists denied women the right to vote. And the people organized and prevailed. Schwarzenegger’s veto is a minor bump in the road as the march for health rights progresses. We are organizing and we will prevail in this campaign for our health rights.

Our OneCareNow Campaign, now in its 44th day, spreads and accelerates around the State. The daily events, parades, music festivals, video screenings, and rallies have energized and grown our grassroots movement exponentially as tens of thousands have signed our health rights petition for affordable, quality health care. We will continue growing the movement each day with the next 321 days of events in cities throughout the State. We need you to join us so we can prevail!

Volunteer and join the OneCareNow campaign in your city. Along with the OneCareNow.org Campaign’s 365 city events, join our historic march to quality, affordable health care in the following ways:

 A Letter-to-the Editor Campaign:
Our web site offers a simple and easy Letter to the Editor feature so you and your friends can easily communicate your views to your local media outlets. Please write today.

 A OneCareNow Corner Billboard Campaign:
will expand visibility of our campaign. Throughout the year, our volunteers will ask for your help to stage frequent roadside events with picket signs at strategic times and days (for example, Fridays at rush hour), to reach thousands of people with our message.

 Ad Materials for Download:
builds local awareness and will be available soon. You can download camera-ready ads to be published in local newsletters and newspapers. Local volunteers will be raising funds for paid advertising in larger newspapers.

See our DVD, The Healthcare Solution:

California OneCare
Produced by our Emmy Award-winning member and volunteer, Don Schroeder, this educational DVD is now available for immediate shipment and includes easy steps for your own House Party fund-raiser events. Order this illuminating DVD at www.OneCareNow.org

Our focus on building grassroots support for our health rights legislation will make it impossible for the Legislature and Governor to ignore us, the people. We will make our elected officials, including the Governor, pass our legislation that will provide quality, affordable health care to everyone! Our "health rights" Campaign will trump the current practice of allowing insurance, pharmaceutical, medical device and hospital corporations to grossly profit from our diseases, illnesses and injuries. It is simply not moral.

Finally, thank you for all for your work each day. Your inspiring efforts attract more people to join our campaign; they see your passion and join our cause.

Sincerely,

Andrew McGuire, Executive Director
OneCareNow Campaign
