HOMELESSNESS IN THE O.C.

If you happened to read the Orange County Register  on  Tuesday March 18th  2008, the big headline on the front page of the “Local” section read “Bringing health care out of the shadows.”

The story,  by Register columnist Yvette Cabrera, told how a public health nurse, Paul M. Leon and our Health Officer Dr. Handler have been working to provide health care for Orange County’s homeless people.

One day, Paul was called to the Armory to deal with a medical emergency.  He found about 150 homeless people who had found shelter there. About a third of them were families with young children. During that visit at the Armory, Paul had to call three ambulances.

Since then, he and Dr. Handler have worked hard to build a coalition  of  health care providers who will collaborate and repair this hole in Orange County’s safety net.

Come and hear Dr. Handler address the issues and describe what is being done at our June 12th Annual Meeting.

Space is limited.  Please reserve ASAP.  Call (714) 558-0940
Lunch will be provided, thanks to a generous grant from Kaiser Permanente Orange County
